Bluffton is a Lowcountry town in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. It is primarily located around U.S. Route 278, between Hilton Head Island and Interstate 95. The town's original one square mile area, now known as Old Town, is situated on a bluff along the May River. The population was counted by the 2010 census at 12,893. Bluffton is the fastest growing municipality in South Carolina with a population over 2,500, growing 882.7% between the 2000 and 2010 censuses. Bluffton is the fifth largest municipality in South Carolina by land area. The town is a primary city within the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bluffton is known for its eclectic Old Town district and natural views of the May River. It has been called "the last true coastal village of the South."

Following the Tariff of 1842, Bluffton became a hotbed of separatist sentiment. In 1844 the Bluffton Movement, a protest against federal taxes, gave birth to the secession movement and led South Carolina to be the first state to leave the Union. In the antebellum period Bluffton became a popular location for wealthy merchants and plantation owners. During the Civil War two-thirds of the town was destroyed by fire during the Union's Bluffton Expedition on June 4, 1863.

Belfair was established in 1811 as a country estate and working plantation. It was named for its original owners, William Telfair of Savannah and his wife, Betsey Bellinger. When you enter the gated neighborhood, you are first welcomed by the majestic Avenue of Oaks, a half-mile oak-lined drive. The natural beauty of the landscape instantly sets you at ease and allows you to become one with the Lowcountry pace of life.

When you buy property in Belfair, you're greeted by breathtaking backdrops and surrounded by magnificent wildlife. You can look out your window to a variety of scenes such as marsh views, forest views, fairway views or river views. Besides the walking trails and wildlife viewing areas, Belfair is also home to a wading bird rookery.

The community's social calendar is always packed with events such as wine dinners, dances, holiday events, themed parties and more.

The gated community houses two golf courses designed by Tom Fazio. Most say the East Course resembles the link courses of Scotland. The walkable, 18-hole course measures 6,900 yards from the championship tees. This 71-par layout features open fairways, freshwater lakes and lagoons to create elevation and contour changes.

The 18-hole West Course is a parklands design, known for its natural setting. This challenging, yet playable 72-par course measures 7,111 total yards from the championship tees and features manicured bunkers that frame most every hole. The lagoons, lush greenery and natural tree lines fit seamlessly with the long par fives and elusive par threes.

If your drives need a little practice, head over to Belfair's Jim Ferree Learning Center. The facility offers an 1,800-square-foot building with an indoor hitting room. You can also perfect your short game on the two practice greens. This facility gives you the opportunity to practice every put, chip, bunker and fairway shot to propel your golf game to the next level or just make your weekly tee time with the buddies a little more interesting.
